How I learned to whip without yelling the whole way

Dummy note from the jump line: the whip starts with your eyes, not your elbows. I kept staring at the lip and the bike kept landing crooked, which is a very honest teacher.

The fix was boring and perfect. Look at the landing, push the bike out, bring it back before the dirt votes. I still yell. The yell is just shorter now, and it happens after the tires touch.

Dawn patrol packing list

Water, a layer you'll take off and refuse to carry, one snack that survives a jersey pocket, and lights even if you swear you'll be back before dark. You will not be back before dark.

The green trail that humbled me

It was marked easy. The map did not mention the off-camber roots or the family of puddles with main-character energy. I walked two corners and called it “style scouting.”

Suspension for a lighter rider

Dummy setup notes: start softer than the chart, add a click until the front stops diving into every braking bump, and write the numbers on tape inside the number plate. Future you is bad at remembering.

Why pine forests smell like speed

Shade, needles, and berms that hold. I don't have a scientific paper. I have a jersey that still smells like the descent and a very strong opinion that this is the correct scent for going fast.
